An island in the port of Mahón. A unique art experience: Hauser & Wirth Menorca.

The Hauser & Wirth galleries on Isla del Rei are an exclusive haven for art lovers.

A spectacular contemporary art centre situated on Illa del Rei, a small islet sheltered by the port of Maó (Menorca), one of Europe’s largest natural harbours.

In the 18th century, this small islet housed a naval hospital, which has been carefully refurbished by the Argentine architect Luis Laplace, a regular collaborator of the Wirths, to accommodate this ambitious artistic project.

The exhibition comprises eight galleries and an outdoor sculpture trail, featuring works by Louise Bourgeois, Eduardo Chillida and Joan Miró. The gardens surrounding the galleries were designed by Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf and boast a mix of native and Mediterranean plants.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca opened in July 2021 and launched with ‘Masses and Movements’, Mark Bradford’s first solo exhibition in Spain, showcasing a selection of sculptures and paintings by the American artist.

The venue also features an Educational Lab, which aims to engage both the local community and visitors through activities such as talks, workshops and screenings, and a restaurant serving local and seasonal produce, particularly seafood.
